Hi, I'm Julie ... artist, photographer, potter, etc. I am so happy you are here! I consider this blog my creative journal where I can share my recent work, ideas and dreams, and lots of little details about my life. Please make yourself at home. Whether you are a bride-to-be, a photographer, or just a visitor, I hope you will find inspiration here and even become a friend. |
Being in Chicago was such an awesome experience for me! In January of this year I went to a Jessica Claire workshop in California. I learned a lot there but what really made the trip totally amazing were all the new photographer friends that I made there ... awesome photographers from all over the world! One of those people was Christine De Lessio (here is a link to her blog: http://www.christinedelessioblog.com/). Christine contacted me about working with me and it just so happened that I needed a second shooter for this Chicago wedding. The rest is history! I was so happy to have Christine's company over the weekend. We talked about all kinds of photography related topics as well as ... you know, girl stuff!! It was like a slumber party all weekend! Most importantly, having Christine's help during the wedding was awesome. She took some really beautiful photos with a fresh perspective ... but beginning the day she helped me carry all of Erin's things around.
We began the day at Erin's grandmother's home in Arlington Heights, IL. Getting the detail shots in the morning has become sort of a routine. Its often a challenge to find unique spots to feature each item ... but somehow make them all look aesthetically cohesive with the rest of the wedding. I was so happy with these spots that Christine helped me find and how they looked with the whole style of the day.
I love some light coming through the lace in the dress. So lovely!
This next black and white shot is one of Christine's. She is awesome at photojournalism ... which means ... she never misses a "moment". See:
Rich and Erin opted to do a "first look". This is such an awesome choice!!! This is my favorite moment of the day!!! I love how calm and sweet Rich is in this photo ... just moments before he got to see his bride. He took a deep breath and you can see him taking it all in.
Christine's shot of Rich's reaction ...
I love being present and getting to photograph such a special and intimate moment. This moment is the wedding day!!!
And its made even more special by a beautiful gift.
To surpise Erin, Rich had a fancy old Rolls Royce for them to ride around in. I don't know very much about old cars ... what year ... what kind of engine ... blah blah blah! But I definitely LOVED photographing this car! It gave me an opportunity to do something really unique. Plus there is something so timeless about it!
Brides are always beautiful on their wedding day. I think its because when you are surrounded with so much love ... you are filled with love ... and love makes you glow from the inside out. Erin and Rich have very supportive and loving families ... so they were both glowing. This next photo is one of my favorites ... just because Erin is so glowy!
Love, encouragement, and time for prayer just before the ceremony. Great moment by Christine.
The light in the church during the ceremony was a bit tricky. Like always, right? But it caused a really beautiful haze and I think Christine and I both got some really pretty shots.
This is just my opinion. If you want a great "exit photo" ... do it after the ceremony before it gets dark outside. Case and point:
Then to the country club for the reception. I snuck the newly weds out onto the green for just a few favorites! How could I not play with that veil?
While I was doing portraits, Christine was getting a few details of the reception during the cocktail hour.
Erin and Rich had taken dance lessons ... and they had an amazing first dance!
Erin's parents are some of the nicest people I've ever met. I love this shot of Erin and her dad dancing. They have a very close and sweet relationship. Father daughter dances always get me!
So Erin's parents had a really special gift for Erin and Rich. It was a performance by the guy in middle of this photo series. He is an actor and he performed three songs. It was SO emotional! He was amazing and I had a hard time taking photos because I was weeping, people! WEEPING!!!
Lots of fun dancing to end the night!
